The world will see Malaysia’s wholly-owned Formula One team competing on the Grand Prix circuit from next year with a locally-made machine.

Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak said the international motor racing federation (FIA) had accepted Malaysia’s bid to enter the 2010 and future FIA F1World Championships with its 1Malaysia F1 Team.

The team, an initiative of the government and private sector, will see the collaborative experience of Proton and Lotus, and backing from the Sepang International Circuit (SIC), AirAsia, Naza Motors, the Malaysian Motorsports Association and Malaysian Automobile Association.

Ferrari F60

Ferrari unveil it 2009 F1 vehicle today. They are the first team who show off their car for this year, it just prove that Ferrari is all ready for the race. Watch out competitors ! emoticon

So this is the ever gorgeous red hot new vehicle which Ferrari named it as F60.

I don’t know much about the specification or what is the improvement on this model compare to year 2008 model. Lazy to read. It me check out other website and copied to my site. emoticon

Description and Technical Specifications

The F60 is the fifty fifth single-seater built by Ferrari specifically to compete in the Formula 1 World Championship. The name of the car was chosen to celebrate the Scuderia’s participation in all 60 editions of the Formula 1 World Championship since 1950 to date.

The project, which goes by the internal code name of 660, represents the Scuderia’s interpretation of the regulations that come into force this year, which include very many new elements. As far as the aerodynamics are concerned, these modifications are the result of the work carried out by the OWG (Overtaking Working Group,) set up by the FIA in collaboration with the teams to produce a set of rules aimed at encouraging more overtaking on track: the front wing, which has a neutral central profile, common to all, is developed mainly on its side elements and is much wider than in the past: the bodywork can no longer carry the slotted apertures that had characterised the Ferrari cars over the past few years.

Other aerodynamic devices are also significantly reduced; the rear wing is higher and narrower than in the past; the diffuser has been moved rearward. The combination of changes naturally led the initial design phase down radically different routes when it came to the side pods and protection components: the apertures have been reduced in size and moved rearward, while the upper and rear elements are larger to aid the exit of air.

The new rules regarding aerodynamics have also led to modifications to the suspension, as these elements can no longer be enclosed to the same extent. The suspension system and the whole layout of the car have been redesigned in the light of the new rules in order to achieve the correct weight distribution.

The design also takes into account two other significant changes in the 2009 regulations: the possibility of using a kinetic energy recovery system (KERS) and the reintroduction of "slick" tyres. The KERS on the F60 was designed by Ferrari in collaboration with Magneti Marelli and is centrally mounted on the engine under the rear part of the chassis; its management has involved all departments of the Gestione Sportiva. The return to tyres with no grooves is another element which is down to the work of the OWG, as is the introduction of a flap on the front wing that can be adjusted by the driver when the car is moving.

The software for managing this tool, as well as for the KERS, was designed in Maranello. The transmission has been redesigned to optimise the aerodynamic efficiency of the car. The gearbox casing is again made in carbon and is still positioned longitudinally. The gearbox is fitted with a speed shifter. There is also a new braking system, with callipers designed by Brembo. Other important rule changes for this year stem from the work of FIA and FOTA (Formula One Teams Association) aimed at producing a significant reduction in the teams’ operational costs.

As far as the engine is concerned, which retains its longitudinal mounting in the F60 and continues as a load bearing structure, the rules now state that a total of eight engines may be used over the 17 Grand Prix race weekends on the calendar.

Accordingly, the maximum permitted engine speed has been reduced to 18,000 rpm and the distance target for each unit is now around 2,500 kilometres. Furthermore, modifications have been made to the inlet trumpets, the position of the injectors and the configuration of the exhausts. The changes to the regulations mean that, on the reliability front, Shell has played a fundamental role in defining the lubricants for both the engine and gearbox.

As usual, the technical partners have played an important part right from the design and development stage of the entire car. Apart from the aforementioned Shell, a significant contribution has been made by the FIAT Research Centre, especially in the use of its simulation systems and by Brembo, in the development of the braking system. As usual, great attention has been paid to the management and optimisation of the materials used, at the design stage and through quality control, aimed at maximising performance while maintaining the highest possible levels of safety.

Ai yo… so much thing to read….. lazy lar…… emoticon

Fantastic Italian F1

Have not blah about F1 racing result for a few weeks. Reason was the result not pro me since my favorite team, Ferrari + favorite driver Kimi Raikkonen were not doing well in the recent races emoticon.

However, last weekend wet condition race, Italy Grand Prix in Monza had something interesting and historical to talk about. It was a very unique day in F1 history.

The race won by a little known driver => Sebastian Vettel.

He came from a very small team which have very little fund to get the car moving => Toro Rosso.

Sebastian also made himself into F1 history as the youngest driver ever won a race, at 21 years 73 days (Previously this record hold by Fernando Alonso, 22years+)

And this was the car which lead the race on last Sunday….. suddenly teams like Ferrari, McLaren or BMW look became second to this machine. emoticon  It look superb in wet weather. oh ya…. need to remind you, this car was fitted with Ferrari engine. emoticon Also, for those who know long enough of F1 passed, Toro Rosso used to know as Minandi.

Lazy to look at the current championship chart among the drivers… heheheh…. sick of seeing Hamilton and Massa names on the top. emoticon

My focus on F1 now switch to the venue of coming race which fall on 28 September. It call Singapore Grand Prix, first time in Singapore and also another first time in F1 history as the race will be execute in night time ! emoticon

About Olympic Medal chart

Watched Olympic Games for many many years. Usually we will tend to focus on the latest medal charts update at the end of TV report or we flip to the medal chart page on newspaper at the early morning with the intention to view the latest total for each countries.

In the past few events, USA always on the top of the chart. The normal way of media positioning the first place country will be based on the no of gold medals that country collected. Meaning Silver and Bronze was not take into consider in the chart.

However for this year Beijing Olympic Games, I discovered that different way of arrangement appear in most of the international media in the format of medal display. Instead of only focus on the total gold medals collection for each country, the media plot the medal chart positioning based on over all medals won by each country . Meaning  Gold + Silver + Broze

This was what I found in Yahoo website :

United State   G (26)  S (26)  B (27)  Total = 79    ** Top Standing

China               G (43)  S (14)  B (19)  Total = 76     ## So many gold for what ?

Russia           G (10)  S (14)  B (18)  Total = 42

Australia         G (11)  S (12)  B (12)  Total = 35

Great Britain  G (16)  S (9)   B (8)    Total = 33

What about another popular website… mmm…. MSN

Country Gold Silver Bronze Total
USA  United States 26 26 27 79
CHN  China 43 14 19 76
RUS  Russian Fed. 10 14 18 42
AUS  Australia 11 12 12 35
GBR  Great Britain 16 9 8 33
FRA  France 4 11 14 29
GER  Germany 11 8 9 28

emoticon  emoticon  emoticon  same oh…. United States still consider the best team since they score more Silver and Bronze than a very much weak country like China  emoticon  We only can put the blame on China athelete which put too much efford on winning Gold instead of Silver & Bronze emoticon

mmmmmmmmmmm….. let me do the last attempt to get the medal chat from another well known site that not belong to US….. BBC from United Kingdom will do kua ?

China              G (43)  S (14)  B (19)  Total = 76    ** Opp ! China on Top now

United State  G (26)  S (26)  B (27)  Total = 79

Great Britain   G (16)  S (9)   B (8)   Total = 33

Australia          G (11)  S (12)  B (12)  Total = 35

Germany        G (11)   S (8)    B (9)    Total = 28

The above 2 differents way of plotting the medal scoring result do have affect on the ranking of small country like Malaysia and Singapore. Both of us only have ONE SILVER medal on hand now…. so this is how the ranking look like when you check us out at US based website :

Position of 61 - 68

However, we have a better ranking in overall result if we check out the chart on non-US based site.

Position of 59 - 66 (now got 8 countries with single silver medal)
